Our Inspection Services

Below Ground Inspection

Structural assessment of pole foundations at and below ground level using tablet-based photographic capture and standardised field data entry. Inspectors assess decay, rot, soil conditions, and embedment integrity in compliance with UETDRAI001 — Inspect and test poles at below ground level.

Above Ground Inspection

Visual and structural inspection of poles, hardware, cross-arms, insulators, conductors, and electrical apparatus. Tablet-based photo documentation ensures a complete, auditable record for every asset, aligned with UETDRAI002 — Inspect poles, hardware and electrical apparatus.

Aerial Drone Inspection

High-resolution UAV surveys provide safe, rapid inspection of overhead infrastructure — particularly valuable for remote, difficult-to-access, or live-network assets. Drone imagery integrates directly into the Fulcrum field data platform for seamless reporting.

LiDAR Survey

Light Detection and Ranging scanning provides precise 3D point-cloud models of pole lines and corridor vegetation. Ideal for large-scale network assessments, clearance analysis, and long-term asset management planning for major infrastructure owners.

ThermoVision Inspection

Thermal infrared imaging identifies heat anomalies, failing connections, overloaded conductors, and deteriorating insulators invisible to the naked eye. ThermoVision reduces unplanned outages and supports proactive maintenance for high-value network assets.

Pole Treatment

Where inspection identifies decay or deterioration, Pacific Energy Group can apply approved treatment solutions to extend pole service life and defer replacement costs. Treatment is carried out in accordance with UETDRAI004 — Treat poles.

How We Do It — The Inspection Process

Pacific Energy Group's inspection service is built on three pillars: certified people, proven technology, and seamless data integration. Every inspection produces a complete, auditable asset record that flows directly into our clients' enterprise systems.

Scope & Planning

Every inspection programme begins with a detailed scoping discussion with the client. Pacific Energy Group works with asset owners to define the inspection boundary, asset register, access requirements, network energisation status, and reporting format. For corporate clients running SAP, we confirm the data schema and integration pathway at this stage so that field data flows directly into the client's existing asset management system without manual re-entry.

Field Mobilisation

Inspection teams are mobilised with tablet devices pre-loaded with the Fulcrum inspection forms, configured to the client's asset register and GPS coordinates. Drone operators, LiDAR crews, or ThermoVision technicians are deployed as required by the agreed scope. All personnel hold current qualifications under Certificate II in ESI: Asset Inspection and Testing and are briefed on site-specific WHS requirements before entering the network corridor.

Below Ground Inspection

Inspectors excavate or probe around the pole base to assess structural integrity at and below ground level — the zone most susceptible to decay, rot, fungal attack, and soil-related deterioration. Findings are documented with geo-tagged tablet photographs and standardised condition ratings entered directly into Fulcrum in real time. Where decay is identified, inspectors assess residual wall thickness and recommend treatment or replacement. Conducted in compliance with UETDRAI001 and UETDRAI005.

Above Ground Inspection

The above-ground inspection covers the full height of the pole structure — including the pole body, cross-arms, insulators, conductors, earthing hardware, fuse equipment, and any attached electrical apparatus. Inspectors use tablet devices to photograph and record condition ratings for each component, flagging defects, corrosion, mechanical damage, and non-compliant configurations. Conducted in compliance with UETDRAI002.

Aerial Drone Inspection

Where above-ground access is restricted, the network is energised, or terrain makes ground-level inspection impractical, Pacific Energy Group deploys commercial-grade UAVs to capture high-resolution imagery and video of overhead infrastructure. Drone inspection is particularly valuable for remote corridors, river crossings, steep terrain, and live high-voltage networks. Footage and imagery are geotagged and uploaded directly to Fulcrum.

Advanced Sensing — LiDAR & ThermoVision (Client Option)

LiDAR scanning generates precise 3D point-cloud models of the pole line corridor, enabling clearance analysis, vegetation encroachment mapping, and long-term network planning. ThermoVision thermal infrared imaging identifies heat anomalies at connections, insulators, and conductors that are invisible to the naked eye — enabling predictive maintenance before costly failures occur. Both technologies are particularly valued by major infrastructure owners such as Aurizon, BHP, and Rio Tinto for high-consequence network segments.

Data Processing & Reporting

All field data captured in Fulcrum — condition ratings, photographs, GPS coordinates, inspector notes, and defect flags — synchronises to the cloud in real time. The data is processed through Power BI to generate client-ready dashboards, trend analysis, risk prioritisation reports, and maintenance scheduling recommendations. For enterprise clients, the processed data integrates directly with SAP to create or update work orders, asset records, and maintenance plans — eliminating manual data transfer entirely.

Remediation & Follow-Through

Pacific Energy Group's full-service capability means that where inspection identifies defects requiring action, we can mobilise our construction and maintenance teams to carry out remediation — pole treatment, pole replacement, hardware upgrades, or high-voltage line repairs — under the same project umbrella. Clients benefit from a single point of accountability from inspection through to remediation, with all work records maintained in the same Fulcrum-to-SAP data pipeline.

Inspection Technology

01

Fulcrum Field Platform

All field data — photos, condition ratings, GPS coordinates, and inspector notes — are captured in real time using the Fulcrum mobile platform on tablet devices at every asset.

02

Drone Aerial Survey

Commercial-grade UAVs deliver high-resolution imagery and video of overhead assets, enabling safe inspection of live or difficult-to-access infrastructure across remote corridors.

03

LiDAR Scanning

Airborne or vehicle-mounted LiDAR generates precise 3D corridor models for clearance analysis, vegetation encroachment mapping, and network planning at scale.

04

ThermoVision Imaging

Thermal infrared cameras detect electrical faults, overheating connections, and insulator degradation — enabling predictive maintenance before failures occur on high-value assets.

Enterprise Data Integration

Pacific Energy Group's inspection data pipeline is purpose-built for corporate asset owners. Field data captured in Fulcrum flows through Power BI analytics and integrates directly with SAP — ensuring inspection results are immediately actionable within your existing enterprise asset management environment, with no manual re-entry.
